why the fuck is the concept art so much better
The concept art is gorgeous!…but it’s also a kid’s movie, so.
It’s the same as when they do concept art for a video game, it’s not going to be exactly like the finished product, it’s just used to get a general idea of what they want to portray.
And, as it’s been pointed out already, it is a children’s movie which means animated characters and bright colors.

A live action version of Kiki’s Delivery Service has been announced. The film will be directed by Juon (a.k.a. The Grudge) director Takashi Shimizu. Kiki will be portrayed by Fuka Koshiba, a 16 year old ice skater turned actress.
The film won’t necessarily be a remake of Miyazaki’s animated classic, but will instead be a new adaptation based on the original novel by Japanese author Eiko Kadono.
